Hello...

My name is Thomas Janik and I am an industrial designer from Chicago who loves spending time working with my hands and exploring new ideas to their highest potential. I see design as a perfect way to create new and exciting user experiences.

Growing up in the Chicago suburbs I moved into the city going to school at the University of Illinois Chicago and earned my bachelor’s in design. After I began a short career designing for trade shows until the 2020 pandemic. today i’m working on Janik Makes, my custom woodworking presence. I work with clients to make new furnishings custom to their unique needs.

When I'm not creating something I'm experiencing the world myself, I have always been an avid outdoors enthusiast, many thanks to my long connections with the Boy Scouts of America. I really enjoy learning new skills, histories, and ideas as those ultimately become a crucial influence on my creativity.

Please enjoy my resume here!

Hands-on Design

Growing up I was surrounded by tools and always had a project going on. Each tool provided a new view on the possibilities of things that can be created. A hands on understanding of the capabilities for the manufacturing process is core to my design thinking.

HAUNTED CENTRAL

For four years I had the amazing opportunity to be a big part of a haunted house as room designer, construction, and choreographer. I see this as both exciting and great challenge as a designer, by crafting an experience that focuses creating enjoyment from the uncomfortable rather than the comfortable.
